the entitelment of hierarchic organizing of organisms

To make it easier to identify organisms and to simplify the massive amounts of taxonomic description, biologists have arranged the biota into broad groupings that share common traits. Proceeding from the most general to the most specific, and using the human animal as example, the taxonomic categories are:

Kingdom: Metazoa
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primate
Family: Hominidae
Genus: Homo
Species: Homo Sapiens
